Benny Kauff also was known as the “Ty Cobb of the Feds”
while playing for the Federal League.  He
signed with the Giants once the Federal League folded but was banned from
baseball by Kenesaw Mountain Landis for charges of auto theft.  He went to trial and was acquitted  but Landis refused to reinstate him thinking
he was guilty anyway and would tarnish baseball’s integrity which he was trying
to win back after the Black Sox.
