27-year-old Tiger pitcher John Hiller drives himself to the hospital after suffering three heart attacks while relaxing at home. After recuperating and spending time as a coach for the Lakeland club, the Canadian will come charging back in 1973, lowering his ERA to 1.44 and establishing a new American League record with 38 saves en route to earning the Comeback Player of the Year and eventually becoming Detroit’s all-time leader in saves with 125, before retiring at the end of the 1980 season.
